The Office of Undergraduate Research, in collaboration with the Advisory Committee Members, affords undergraduate researchers the opportunity to showcase research projects of their own design under the guidance of a faculty mentor, annually, at the Undergraduate Research Exposition. Applicable activities include, but are not limited to: thesis projects, senior theses, honors projects, independent study projects, capstone projects and course-related projects, among others. Activities may be recently completed or on-going and may be collaborative or individual.
This event is designed to celebrate and showcase students' involvement in scholarly research and creative productions campus-wide, provide a venue that supports LU's combined educational missions, as well as an opportunity for students to exchange ideas in a professional setting. All participating students will receive a certificate.
The Undergraduate Research Exposition will take place on April 21, 2017. The Exposition will be comprised of two venues for the presentation of undergraduate research: a Symposium for oral presentations and a Poster Presentation Fair. Come see the amazing work of our LU undergraduate research students!
The symposium will include participants selected by the Advisory Committee Members, reflecting the most accomplished undergraduate work throughout the College.
The symposium will consist of a concurrent session, representing distinct disciplinary sections of the College: Humanities, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Engineering. For research that is truly interdisciplinary and does not fit cleanly into one fo these four categories, the student will be assigned to the area deemed most appropriate. Students invited to present will be allotted ten to fifteen minutes for presentation and three to five minutes to answer questions.
The Poster Presentation Fair will serve as a venue for all undergraduate students who have conducted research to present their findings to the College community.
The Poster Presentation Fair will be accessible for viewing throughout the entire day of the UR Expo. Student-participants will offer brief synopses of their work to audience members traversing the room.
How to Get Involved
Students who have engaged in research* and who are interested in participating in the Symposium and/or the Poster Fair are requested to fill out an application form, accessible online, and submit by Monday, March 31, 2016. Selected undergraduates will be contacted upon acceptance and provided any additional information necessary to prepare adequately for this event.
*Please note: All current UR undergraduates may submit an application.
Finally, whether or not you are involved in undergraduate research, we invite you to attend the Expo and see some of the exciting things your fellow students are doing. See you in April!
