African American Male Professionals (AAMP)

The goal of AAMP is to promote students' self confidence, personalize Lamar University, help students meet the intellectual challenges of college, take advantage of resources, and foster maximum academic, personal, and professional growth.

To address the low persistence and graduation rates among African American males, AAMP is committed to positively increasing academic success and leadership development by encouraging students to develop a strong sense of community involvement and responsibility. This is achieved through a relationship with an African American male mentor who has obtained a college degree and is a professional within the university and the area community.
