Students, alumni and friends will join together starting Sunday for a week of festivities to celebrate Lamar University’s Homecoming.
Students have celebratory events planned each day leading up to the LU Cardinals men’s basketball homecoming game vs. Northwestern State University of Natchitoches, La., on Feb. 23. Unless otherwise noted, events are open to alumni, friends and the general public.
Highlights of the schedule include:
Monday, Feb. 18, Homecoming Bonfire – Lamar University students and friends will gather in the Setzer Student Center parking lot at 8:15 p.m. and march to the golf driving range on University Drive south of Florida Avenue for a bonfire. Lighting of the fire will be around 9 p.m. The event will include introduction of LU athletes and a DJ.
Wednesday, Feb. 20, Cardinal Carnival – Students will enjoy inflatable rides and games at no cost and food using the declining balance on their meal plans. The student-only event will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on the Ty Terrell Track.
Thursday, Feb. 21, Food Fest – More than 25 student organizations have signed up to sell scrumptious food at reasonable prices at this annual fundraiser. The event, which is open to all, will be the Setzer Student Center from 9:30 a.m. until the food runs out.
Saturday, Feb. 23
Parade – Begins at 4 p.m. at Brooks-Shivers Hall and moves west, winding around campus to the Montagne Center parking lot.
Crawfish Boil – A tailgate party with free crawfish for students and the community starts at 5 p.m. in the Montagne Center parking lot.
Homecoming Game – LU Cardinals take on Northwestern State at 7 p.m. in the Montagne Center. Homecoming king and queen will be crowned at halftime. Students, faculty and staff get in free with Lamar University ID. For ticket information, call (409) 880-1715 or go to lamarcardinals.com
