Fedorchenko focus of Dishman Museum exhibition

1/14/2008
Fedorchenko art

The Dishman Art Museum introduces the first in a new series of exhibitions with a reception on Friday, January 18 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Members of the Department of Art faculty will show their works and select other works from the permanent collection or their private collection or other sources.

This first show, Select by Faculty: Xenia Fedorchenko, Her Work, Her Selection and Her Collection, features Lamar University Associate Professor Xenia Fedorchenko who specializes in drawing and printmaking.

Fedorchenko chooses pieces from the permanent collection that she believes “dialogue” with her pieces, Untitled 2007 and Untitled 2007.  Fedorchenko juxtaposes images so you, the viewer, can make interpretations and comparisons of your own.

Fedorchenko’s personal collection will be displayed on the second floor of Dishman Art Museum. Included is a portfolio of prints, Translation: the Reproductive Print Re-interpreted in the Twenty-first Century.  Artists translated a master work, staying faithful to the original but to approach it with a contemporary eye.

Dishman Art Museum is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free. The exhibition will close January 25. For more information please contact the Dishman Art Museum at 880-8959.

Xenia Fedorchenko received her Bachelor's of Fine Arts in painting from Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, and her Master's in printmaking from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Prior to joining the faculty at Lamar, Fedorchenko was a printer of intaglio and lithographic editions at Milestone Graphics, a private contract print shop in Connecticut. In addition to being the instructor for figure drawing and printmaking courses at Southern Illinois University as a graduate assistant, Xenia taught portfolio development workshops at Lyme Academy.
