On Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, Labor Day Weekend, Beaumont will host an explosive celebration in honor of the hardworking men and women of America. The earth will tremble, people will cheer and the Lucas Gusher will blow once again. At the Spindletop/Gladys City Boomtown Museum, the Replica Lucas Gusher will roar hundreds of feet into the sky at 2:30 p.m. and again at 4 p.m. The museum will also have before and after Rita photo displays and a continuous showing of the Spindletop video.

The Gulf Coast Living History Association will have a Civil War Encampment including regular and silent drills with a Civil War era cannon on display at the Spindletop/Gladys City Boomtown Museum. The museum in a part of Lamar University's Divsion of Continuing and Distance Education.

"The gusher is a truly impressive sight for the whole family to experience, and the re-enactors will add excitement to the day's celebration," said Christy Marino, director of the Spindletop Museum.

In celebration of the American worker, Capital One Bank is sponsoring FREE shuttle service for visitors and residents alike. The shuttle will travel between Downtown Beaumont's Historic Museum District, Beaumont hotels and the Spindletop Museum from noon until 5 p.m.

Beaumont's Historic Museum and Entertainment District is booming! New brick sidewalks and lamp posts add charm to the already classic appeal of Beaumont's downtown. Tracy Byrd, Mark Chesnutt and Zona Jones will all perform at the 2006 Labor Day Music Festival. This event will provide fun and entertainment for the entire family.
