The Lamar University Department of Communication will host Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau Marketing Director Stephanie Molina as the first guest in its fourth annual “Public Relations Professionals Series” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20 in room 103 (the theater) of the new Communication building on the Lamar University campus off Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway.
Molina, a 2000 graduate of Lamar will discuss the challenges of handling public relations for an organization devoted to area tourism. The convention and visitors bureau is in the midst of a Southeast Texas tourism campaign and preparing for Beaumont’s new downtown redevelopment.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in what a public relations professional must do to meet the demands of tourism in Southeast Texas and what’s needed to “sell Beaumont,” said Paul Hemenway, professor of communication, who will host this series as part of his LU Introduction to Public Relations class, and is opening this special evening to everyone on campus and in the community.
Other series guests include Art Museum of Southeast Texas Public Relations Coordinator Melissa Tilley, who will present on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and ExxonMobil’s Beaumont Public and Government Relations Manager Kathleen Jackson, who will present on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
Inaugurated in 2006, the PR Professionals Series is free and open to the public.
