Congressman Ted Poe (TX-02) announced today that Lamar University has received $4 million from the Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration under the Disaster Recovery Project for the expansion of the Cherry Engineering and Research Center.
“Lamar University continues to pave the way for advancement in the petrochemical and engineering fields,” said Poe.
“This funding will support the expansion of the Cherry Engineering and Research Center and the important work that they do. When this much anticipated project is complete, it will be home to new state-of-the-art laboratories and continue to serve as an important education facility serving our growing petrochemical industry.”
The Economic Development Administration (EDA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, helps to generate jobs, helps retain existing jobs, and stimulates industrial, technological and commercial growth in economically-distressed areas of the nation.
Earlier this year, Congressman Poe announced that he secured $4 million in federal funding for Lamar University’s Advanced Fuel Cell project in the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, FY 2010.
