ExxonMobil employees who are alumni of Lamar University made good use of the company’s generous matching gift program in 2007. Kathleen Jackson, public affairs director for ExxonMobil in Beaumont, presented Lamar University President James Simmons with a matching gift check of $103,470 Monday.
ExxonMobil’s generous three-to-one matching gift program triples employee gifts to the university. Employee contributions have grown steadily for several years, Jackson said. Contributions count toward the university’s Investing in the Future comprehensive campaign, which was announced Saturday with $46 million raised toward a goal of $100 million.
ExxonMobil supports the university primarily by funding special projects and programs on campus including Cardinal Connection, a reading initiative program with the Beaumont Independent School District; Distinguished Faculty Lecture program; the Executive-in-Residence Program in the College of Business; Lamarissimo! and Le Grand Bal in the College of Fine Arts and Communication; and Computer Science Women in Research Development, Teaching Environmental Science, Support of Teacher Preparation in the Integrated Sciences and the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Other ExxonMobil-supported programs of 2007 included a Celebration of Teaching in the College of Education and Human Development; Dynamic Simulation and Advanced Process Control and Engineering Student Ambassador programs in the College of Engineering; Lucas Gusher Monument Improvement Project in the Division of Adult and Continuing Education; and a collection analysis in the Mary and John Gray Library.
