Several Lamar University MBA students will have the opportunity to study international business first hand when they travel to China later this week.
LU students scheduled to make the trip include Jessica Gunst of Kansas City, Kan.; Jiawei Guo of Beijing, China; Michael Johnson of Columbia, S.C.; Courtney Mitchell of Sugar Land; David Moore of Boulder, Colo.; Rick Neely of Nederland; Wade Pettis of Beaumont; Michael Trevino of Beaumont; Jock Wagner of Dayton; and John Worthington of Port Neches.
All are students in the top-ranked MBA program in Lamar University’s College of Business. They will have the option of earning graduate credit toward their degrees as part of the 10-day educational trip with stops in Shanghai and Beijing.
“I think it’s going to be an amazing trip. It’s incredible that Lamar’s offering this opportunity,” said Wagner, 24, who plans to complete his MBA in December. “This will show what we’ve learned in class applied in real-world situations and how culture affects the manner in which business is carried out,” Wagner said.
Business-related aspects of the trip will include visits to a Hyundai Motors factory, a steel plant, a power plant, a Coca-Cola bottling factory and the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Students also will gain insight into retail business in China with shopping trips to Silk Alley and Wal-Mart in Beijing. The trip will include tours of some of the country’s well-known attractions such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. Students depart for China this Friday and will return June 1.
