Crime Prevention Tips

Protect Yourself from Theft

  • Protect your property! Mark your textbooks by using your social security number or drivers license number on a page of the book that only you would know. Check out an engraver from the Police Department and use it to engrave your personal items such as stereos, radios, etc. These items are costly and should be marked this way (a drivers license number can be traced back to you easily if an item is found). If your property is stolen the chances of you getting it back are much greater if you have it engraved. Do this in an inconspicuous place, underneath or behind the item.
  • Hinder bike thieves by keeping your bike locked with a good strong lock.
  • Engrave your bike with your drivers license number or have it done.
  • Feel free to come to the Police Station and talk to the crime prevention officer for tips on how to keep your property safe.
  • Take steps to prevent the theft or burglary of your vehicle by locking it, rolling up windows and do not leave valuables inside--lock them in the trunk. Park your vehicle in well-lit places when possible.
  • Stop criminal activities by reporting them immediately.
