Lamar University is proud to announce the Noah Rodriguez Memorial Scholarship has awarded Martin Sifuentes, an LU freshman, a scholarship of $650.
Sifuentes, who graduated from West Brook High School in Beaumont, is a first-generation student pursuing a
degree in chemical engineering.
“This generous scholarship helped me in many more ways than just the money,” said Sifuentes. “I got to meet with Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez in person and their kind words and uplifting attitudes boosted my confidence in getting through this year, as it has not been easy.”
The Rodriguez’ son, Noah, planned to pursue aerospace engineering at UT-Austin, fly jets for the military and travel the world but he died at the age of 13. Noah’s father, Jose Rodriguez, earned a civil engineering degree from Lamar University in 1991. Noah’s family established the scholarship fund to continue Noah’s love of learning and his kindness by helping the dreams of others take flight.
“It made me proud to be a part of the foundation knowing that I get to carry on Noah’s legacy as well as pursue my goals,” said Sifuentes.
The scholarship is available to incoming freshman in the College of Engineering who graduated from a Beaumont ISD high school. The scholarship is available to recipients for two semesters if they remain full-time students and maintain a 3.0 GPA.
