Victor L. Lovelady Memorial Scholarship in Engineering established

The Lamar University Foundation has announced a new endowed scholarship for the College of Engineering. The Victor L. Lovelady Memorial Scholarship in Engineering will provide assistance to engineering students.

In honor of Victor Lovelady’s memory, work ethic, and integrity, his family endowed this scholarship so that generations of students will have the opportunity to pursue a degree at Lamar University.

Lovelady graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor of Science in industrial technology in 1985. As an industrial engineer and master electrician, Lovelady worked most of his life in Nederland before working overseas for British Petroleum.

In 2013, Victor and his coworkers were attacked by Al Qaeda linked terrorists. While trying to aid his coworkers, he was injured and taken hostage. Lovelady died when the Algerian military attacked the convoy in which he was being held.
