Jean R. Bost Scholarship in Biology established

The Lamar University Foundation has announced a newly endowed scholarship, the Jean R. Bost Scholarship in Biology to support students pursuing a career in teaching biology.

Mary Jean Rogers Bost graduated from Lamar State College of Technology in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in secondary education. She later received a master’s in biology from East Texas State University. For 28 years, Bost taught in Beaumont, at French High School, Central High School, and the completed her career at Kelly High School. She also served as president of the Beaumont Classroom Teacher’s Association and Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society.

Bost’s sons, David and Brent, are graduates of Lamar University. David graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering and is process engineering manager at Richard Design Services, Inc. Brent graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and is a board-certified specialist in obstetrics and gynecology at CHRISTUS Hospital in Beaumont.
