Online master’s programs ranked eighth in nation

Lamar University has been ranked eighth among the top 50 most affordable online graduate schools nationwide for master’s degrees by Best Master’s Programs, an independent online guide for master’s degree programs.

“I am always so pleased to hear about the recognition of our successful online programs,” said Paula Nichols, executive director of the Division of Distance Learning. “This ranking affirms that Lamar has established excellent online master’s degree programs and has developed a reputation as a university that provides quality education. It is gratifying to know that the hard work of the staff, students and university is being acknowledged.”

The list contains a comprehensive view of the cost and range of the degree programs across educational institutions and all fields of study. Ranked in order of the lowest estimated cost for tuition within an online master’s degree at their institution, featured schools had to meet certain criteria: offer at least five online master’s degree programs, offer degree programs that are 100 percent online, and have regional accreditation.

“Our goal is to provide students accessible, affordable programs that contain rigor and quality,” said Nichols. “Our students are graduating and obtaining jobs in the workforce, demonstrating the success of our online programs. I feel certain that this is an attractive feature to prospective students.”

Collectively, Lamar ranked higher than the University of Alabama, University of Missouri, Arizona State University and Stephen F. Austin State University.

Lamar University offers several graduate degree and certification preparation programs. These programs offer the opportunity to earn an advanced degree while fulfilling professional and personal obligations.
