Cardinal Jazz Orchestra spring concert

Lamar University’s Cardinal Jazz Orchestra will perform its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. March 10 in the Vidor High School Auditorium. The program will contain a wide variety of music from composers as varied as Stevie Wonder, Thelonius Monk and Charles Mingus, in addition to original works by contemporary big band writers such as Bob Mintzer and Alan Baylock. Admission is free.

The Cardinal Jazz Orchestra, directed by Richard Condit, visiting professor of saxophone at LU, will be joined by the Vidor High School Jazz Ensemble, directed by Kara Phillips, and the Vidor Junior High School Jazz Ensemble, directed by Trubie Smith.

The Cardinal Jazz Orchestra will also perform later this spring as they open for the Stan Kenton Legacy Orchestra at the Jefferson Theater on April 15.
