President Evans featured on LUTV program April 26
The award-winning television program “LUTV on Fox” produced by students, alumni, staff and faculty of the Department of Communication at Lamar University will air Saturday, April 26 at 3:30 p.m. on KBTV Fox 4. The episode features an in-depth interview with Ken Evans, the president of Lamar University.
The 30-minute program highlights the people, organizations and departments that have helped Lamar University become one of the fastest-growing universities in Texas.
Evans was named the sole finalist for the position of president in March 2013 and began his tenure the summer of 2013. During the program, Evans shares his feelings about his path to his presidency and thoughts on the future of Lamar University.
Retired communication professor Larry Elliot conducted the interview with President Evans.
“Having a new president at Lamar University is a big change for the students, for the Lamar community and for Southeast Texas because of the president's ability to make important changes,” Elliott said. “I think people who watch this episode will have a chance to get acquainted with our president in the same way they would if he came to their living room to sit down and talk for a few minutes about his life, how he got to Beaumont, his plans for Lamar and where we all go from here.
“From now on, President Evans won't be a stranger to anyone who gets acquainted with him through this very personal visit.”
The production crew for “LUTV on Fox” features students Mitchell Junious and Derrick Owens, both of Beaumont, German Cortez of Houston and recent MBA graduate, Kyle Brodeur, of Bridge City. The show was edited by Lamar Video Production Coordinator, Brianna Meadows.
“Post-production for this episode has been a welcomed challenge for me as an editor,” Meadows said. “It has forced me to learn new ways to edit and at the same time reminding me of the tricks I learned in college. This show breaks just about every rule in the book, but delivers a freshness that has never been seen before on LUTV on Fox.”
“I'm extremely proud of the way the interview with President Evans looks and feels. I look forward to hearing the viewers' reactions,” Meadows said. “This show reminds me of the ‘Fireside Chats’ that President Roosevelt delivered in the 1940s but with a modern twist.”
O’Brien Stanley, Department of Communication Chair is the program’s executive producer. Gordon S. Williams, LUTV Studio Operations Manager is the producer for “LUTV on Fox.”
Under the name LUTV Productions, students, alumni, staff and faculty of the Department of Communication have produced a number of award-winning television commercials, programs and documentaries such as “Magnolia: A Century of Oil,” “Surviving Rita: Looking Forward” “LU” on The U”, “The Dean’s Corner”, and “The Beaumont Fire Recruitment Video.”
