Department of Theatre & Dance presents 'Dance Unleashed'
The Lamar University Department of Theatre and Dance will present its spring dance concert, "Dance Unleashed," April 25 - 26 in the University Theatre. The evening of dance works will feature contemporary dance styles and several guest artists.
Dance faculty members and choreographers Golden Wright and L. Michelle Ozmun will present works that were recently performed at the American College Dance Festival at The University of Texas at Austin. Ozmun's humorous dance, “Mine,” set to music by Gotye, is about sibling rivalry and is dedicated to her children. Wright's dance, “A Different Kind of Canvas,” presents an innovative use of light and technology incorporated into dance.
“Dance Unleashed” will also feature the Bob Fosse number, “Rich Man’s Frug,” choreographed for Lamar's recent production of the musical “Sweet Charity,” as well as a fun medley titled “Grand Ole” with music from Hank Williams, Patsy Cline and the Oak Ridge Boys.
Guest artists for the concert include the Lamar University Dance Team directed/choreographed by Brixey Blankenship-Cozad and Lone Star College - Kingswood's dance company.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26. The University Theatre is located at 4400 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway on the Lamar campus. LUTV's studio operations manager Gordon Williams and a partner will also perform a salsa.
Tickets are $15 for general admission; $10 for senior citizens, students and LU faculty/staff; and $7 for LU students.
