W.O.W events introduce new students to campus
Lamar University will welcome new and returning students to campus with Week of Welcome beginning Friday, Aug. 23, through Sunday, Aug. 25.
The events are aimed at helping incoming students interact with campus leaders, learn how to get involved, and prepare themselves for a fun and successful collegiate career.
11:30 a.m.-12 p.m. – An Ice Cream Social at the Setzer Student Center Arbor will allow students to meet the Setzer Student Center staff and learn about student organizations, upcoming activities, scholarships and other services while enjoying ice cream and music.
12-1 p.m. – At the Cardinal Cook Off in the Setzer Student Center ballroom, area restaurants will compete to see whose ramen noodles are the best and introduce students to local cuisine.
8:30-10:30 a.m. – Big Red Breakfast in the Setzer Student Center ballroom will promote school spirit, offer door prizes and will feature L.U. President Kenneth Evans as keynote speaker.
12-1 p.m. – Students will design LU artwork for their dorm rooms with the help of art majors in the Setzer Student Center ballroom.
1-4 p.m. – At the Carnival in the Park in the intramural field across from the John Gray Center, students will enjoy inflatables, a mechanical bull, games, and free food.
3-5 p.m. – New students can explore campus organizations at the LU Cardinal Pride Mixer on the Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall lawn while enjoying a live DJ and free food.
Throughout the weekend, students, both new and returning, will be moving in to their rooms in the Cardinal Village residence halls from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
