Academic Open House showcases LU opportunities for top students

High-achieving high school juniors and seniors can learn about Lamar University’s varied academic programs and scholarship opportunities at Academic Open House on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Juniors and seniors ranking in the top 15 percent of their class and those with SAT scores of 1100 or greater are encouraged to register and attend the event, which will begin at 9 a.m. in the University Theatre.

“Lamar University has so much to offer top students,” said Maggie Cano, director of recruitment. “This special event will allow them to meet deans, professors and current students and experience first-hand the personal attention that Lamar students enjoy.”

Additionally, Academic Open House will include presentations on generous scholarships and the Honors Program, campus tours, complimentary lunch in the dining hall and complimentary tickets to LU’s 7 p.m. Homecoming football game.

Academic Open House is designed to appeal to students near the top of their class with high SAT scores. Top students can register for Academic Open House online at beacardinal.com/openhouse or by calling (409) 880-8316. Those attending should park near the Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center at 4400 University Drive.

Other prospective Lamar University students are encouraged to schedule a campus visit to tour campus and meet with an admissions representative. Campus visits are available Mondays through Fridays at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. This fall, Saturday tours also will be available at 10 a.m. on Sept. 29 and Nov. 10.
