Parsons promoted to vice president for information technology
Lamar University officials have announced the promotion of Priscilla Parsons to vice president for information technology. Parsons, a native of Orange, will be responsible for data center services, network infrastructure, telecommunications, academic technology support, information resource security, enterprise applications and customer support. The information technology department at Lamar also supports the infrastructure needs for Lamar Institute of Technology and Lamar State College – Orange.
“My goals center on using technology to enhance the student experience,” Parsons said. “That means using technology to make things easier and more convenient. I want technology to be an enrichment and not a barrier.”
Parsons began her career with Lamar as a programmer after graduating from LU with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. After 14 years with the LU information technology department, she worked for Conn’s for five years before returning to Lamar in 2006. She also earned the master of business administration at Lamar in May 2012.
She was appointed interim associate vice president for IT in August 2010, a position that became permanent in December 2010. The division has added new responsibilities in the last year and she is excited to meet the challenges of this new position.
