LU English honor society to host initiation, speaker
The Lamar University chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, international English honor society, will host its annual initiation ceremony at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the Dishman Art Museum lecture hall.
Sigma Tau Delta will honor 11 new inductees during the opening ceremony. Lamar’s Department of English and Modern Languages will announce scholarships awarded by the department.
Guest speaker will be Janet Lowery, professor and Cullen Chair of English and Creative Writing at the University of St. Thomas in Houston. Lowery will read from her poetry collection, Traffic in Women,” published in 2008 by Odonata House. “Traffic in Women” consists of dramatic monologues spoken by women from mythological tales.
