Mathematics to host Conference of Texas Statisticians
Lamar University’s Department of Mathematics will host the Conference of Texas Statisticians March 2-3, 2012.
Kumer Pial Das, associate professor of statistics at Lamar, is conference chair.
The yearly conference of all academic and practitioner statisticians, has met annually since 1981, includes plenary talks by well-known statisticians, sessions for young researchers, and poster sessions for undergraduate and graduate students.
Each year, one accomplished statistician is presented with the prestigious Don Owens award at the conference. The award, co-sponsored by Taylor & Francis, is named for Donald B. Owen, who, before his death in 1991, was distinguished professor of statistics at Southern Methodist University. Awarded annually since 1983, this year’s recipient will be Professor George McCabe of Purdue University.
Last year’s conference was held at Texas A&M University and the 2013 conference will be hosted by Rice University, Das said.
