Jefferson County Medical Alliance Scholarship established
The Lamar University Foundation has announced a new endowed scholarship, established by the Jefferson County Medical Alliance for nursing, pre-medicine and pre-physical therapy students at Lamar University.
The Jefferson County Medical Alliance began by providing funds to nursing students for uniforms, shoes and other school expenses. In 1983, the alliance decided to incorporate a permanent funding source, the Beaumont Medical Education Fund Inc. Fundraisers, donations, bequests and memorial donations continued to support students in health-related fields.
The Jefferson County Medical Alliance voted inDecember 2010to dissolve its 501(c)(3) status and donate assets to the Lamar University Foundation for scholarships in nursing, pre-medicine and pre-physical therapy.
“The scholarship was established for qualified persons of limited resources and scholastic ability who desire to enter health-related careers,” said Tenna Anderson, board chair of the Beaumont Medical Education Fund Inc. “We hope to enable qualified students to pursue or continue their medical education.”
