Class of 1957 Scholarship established at Lamar University
The Lamar University Foundation has announced a new endowed scholarship established by the Lamar University Class of 1957. The Class of 1957 Scholarship honors the classmates’ dedication to their alma mater and will provide funds for all majors.
“The Class of ’57 all felt blessed to have had the opportunity to graduate from Lamar and wanted to give others that same experience,” said Bette Stead, a 1957 class member who organized the scholarship fund along with Liz (Benton) Johnson. “As the years have gone by, our degrees have enhanced our lives, both personally and professionally, and we realize even more that Lamar gave us a great start in life.”
The Lamar University 1957 graduating class celebrated its 50-year reunion at the Homecoming festivities in February 2007. The classmates donated money to establish a scholarship for students at Lamar as their way of giving back to the university.
