Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum will blow replica oil gusher for 110th anniversary
Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum will blow its replica oil gusher at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the Lucas Gusher, the discovery well of the Spindletop field that blew in on Jan. 10, 1901. Viewing of the gusher is free to the general public. Living history re-enactors will be on hand throughout the afternoon to provide entertainment and to re-enact the discovery.
Before and after the gusher, between 1 and 5 p.m., visitors may tour the boomtown museum. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and $1 for children. The museum is on U.S. 69 at University Drive (5550 University Dr.) on the Lamar University campus.
