Microsoft Office - Free Version
We now have an agreement with Microsoft allowing you to download Microsoft Office 365 for free on up to fifteen personal devices (PCs, Macs, tablets and phones).
How do I get it?
To download your subscription, go to Office 365.
1. If you're not already signed in, enter your Lamar email address. For example, jsmith@lamar.edu.
2. Next, to confirm your account, enter your LEA password
3. After signing in, follow the steps that match the type of account you signed in with.
You signed in with a school account
a. Select Install Office to begin the installation.
4. This will direct you to the installation page, where you can access your FREE Microsoft Office 365 subscription.
Tip: Don't see an install option after signing in? There could be an issue with your account. Select Need help? from above and review the solutions under Account questions.
How do I install it?
1. Depending on your browser, select Run (in Edge or Internet Explorer), Setup (in Chrome), or Save File (in Firefox).
If you see the User Account Control prompt that says, Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device? select Yes.
The install begins.
2. Your install is finished when you see the phrase, "You're all set! Office is installed now" and an animation plays to show you where to find Office applications on your computer. Select Close.
What's included?
Microsoft Office 365 is a subscription service plan that includes productivity software such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, OneNote, and OneDrive. This service will allow you to download these applications on up to 5 PCs, 5 Macs and on 5 mobile devices.
Who's eligible to get it?
Students
All students who are accepted or enrolled in a current or future term at Lamar University are eligible. Office 365 will be deactivated when you are no longer enrolled at Lamar University.
Faculty/Staff
All faculty/staff who are currently employed at Lamar University are eligible. Office 365 will be deactivated when you are no longer employed at Lamar University.
If you wish to continue to use the software after your access expires or you no longer are employed at Lamar University, you can purchase an Office 365 subscription.
Can I use the free version with other versions?
Microsoft Office 365 will install alongside your current Office installation. See Upgrading to Office 365. If you already have a full version of Office installed then you may not need to install Microsoft Office 365.
