Welcome to Lamar University. Our web site contains the latest news and information about our academic, research, cultural, and community service programs. You will also find a campus map, links to college, departmental, faculty and student home pages, and information about the activities of our Alumni Association.
Lamar University is a comprehensive public university offering more than 100 programs of study leading to bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. We are organized in five colleges, complemented by a graduate school.
Our students have opportunities to perform research alongside renowned professors who explore new avenues of discovery in state-of-the-art laboratories supported by leading-edge technology. On-campus research centers include the Center for Justice Research and Education, Gulf Coast Hazardous Substances Research Center, and the Education Technology Center.
Lamar Offers a wealth of cultural opportunities through the world-class Dishman Art Gallery, Lamarissimo! concert series and Lamar Theatre productions. Lamar's 10,000-seat Montagne Center is a great location to see the Lamar Cardinals in action and for community and campus events. The Early Childhood Development Center, Spindletop/Gladys City Boomtown Museum, and Texas Academy of Leadership in the Humanities, "I Have a Dream" program, Institute for Young Professionals, and Community Outreach Program each provide valuable service to the community and enrich educational opportunity.
Lamar's students are served by an outstanding and gifted faculty, professional educators who are student-focused, quality-driven, technologically-savvy and passionate about learning. Lamar University places students at the heart of its efforts and aspirations. I hope that you will take the time to visit Lamar University.
Sincerely,
James M. Simmons President, Lamar University
